Description
Exterior
The car sold at this auction is colored blue and has attractive pop-up headlights at the front. But what makes this Sypder so appealing and eye-catching is its elegant silhouette. Designed by one of the biggest names in the industry, Giorgetto Giugiaro, this 2-door roadster has a low, shark-like nose, muscular wheel arches, and a sloping rear end. This makes it ideal for relaxed boulevard cruising or driving down scenic coastal roads. And in unfavorable weather, a foldable soft top hidden below a color-coded tonneau cover will come handy. The car has 15-inch wire wheels made by Ruote Borrani and period-correct Michelin Radial X tires. Other note-worthy details include chromed bumpers and functional vents on the hood and fenders.
Interior
Inside this particular Maserati are two comfortable yet supportive seats covered in soft light-brown leather. The same eye-pleasant material is used for upholstering most of the interior, apart from the top of the dashboard, which is covered with black suede. Judging by the photos provided by the seller, the interior is in an immaculate condition. And once inside, the driver will take control of a beautiful wooden steering wheel with three stainless steel spokes in the middle. Behind it is the instrument cluster with a rev counter red-lined at 5,555 RPM and a speedo whose end figure is 300 KPH. In addition to them, this Ghibli has five central-mounted gauges showing vital parameters, such as oil pressure, temperature, and fuel level. At this moment, the odometer stands at approximately 13,000 km.
Mechanics
The car on sale is the SS model, meaning it’s equipped with a larger and more powerful 4.9-liter V8 engine. Fed by four twin-choke Weber carburetors, it develops 335 horsepower and a tad above 480 Nm of torque, which is sent to the rear wheels through a five-speed manual transmission. This is enough to push this Ghibli SS roadster to its maximum speed of 280 MPH, making it the fastest Maserati of its time. Apart from the mechanics, the car has a tubular steel chassis, which ensures lightness and structural stiffness.
Vehicle’s History
The said Spyder conversion was done by a specialized workshop in Mondena, guaranteeing the work quality. This is a popular modification among Ghibli owners because Maserati built less than 50 factory Spyders. Moreover, the car has undergone an in-depth restoration, which was done by Furlonger Cars, a reputable Ashford-based restorer versed in Italian supercars.
According to the owner, all the maintenance work was performed regularly, with the last service done in June 2021. There are currently no known faults or issues with any of its components. Furthermore, no noticeable scratches, dents, or other bodywork imperfections are present.
