Men gemensamt f\u00f6r alla versioner \u00e4r att de erbjuder tidl\u00f6s elegans, en utm\u00e4rkt k\u00f6rupplevelse och tillf\u00f6rlitlig mekanik. Mercedes SL 500 beh\u00f6ver d\u00e4rf\u00f6r inte n\u00f6dv\u00e4ndigtvis vara en samlarbil som tillbringar st\u00f6rre delen av sin tid g\u00f6md i ett garage. I st\u00e4llet kan \u00e4garen k\u00f6ra den dagligen, \u00e5ret runt, utan att vara r\u00e4dd f\u00f6r att den ska g\u00e5 s\u00f6nder eller bli obekv\u00e4m. Detta \u00e4r en av de f\u00f6rdelar som g\u00f6r den mycket eftertraktad bland bilentusiaster.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<h2>Historien om Mercedes SL<\/h2>\n<p>SL \u00e4r en f\u00f6rkortning f\u00f6r <em>Sport-Leicht<\/em>, eller Sport-Light p\u00e5 engelska, vilket avsl\u00f6jar vad denna Mercedes handlar om. I \u00e5rtionden har dessa sportiga cabrioleter erbjudit det senaste inom prestanda, lyx och avancerad teknik i sin klass. I dag skulle Mercedes f\u00f6rmodligen inte ens kunna t\u00e4nka sig sitt produktsortiment utan denna spektakul\u00e4ra bil. Men om det var upp till dem hade det kanske inte ens funnits fr\u00e5n b\u00f6rjan.<\/p>\n<p>Den f\u00f6rsta SL:an, med den interna beteckningen W198, var en t\u00e4vlingsbil som byggdes f\u00f6r att vinna t\u00e4vlingar som 24 timmars Le Mans eller Carrera Panamericana.  <strong>Och Mercedes hade ingen avsikt att g\u00f6ra en v\u00e4gversion av den, eftersom de ans\u00e5g att en s\u00e5dan bil inte beh\u00f6vdes.<\/strong>  Men i USA hade bilimport\u00f6ren Max Hoffman en annan \u00e5sikt och fortsatte att pressa den Stuttgard-baserade tillverkaren att \u00e4ndra sig. Och det gjorde de 1954, n\u00e4r den f\u00f6rsta 300 SL introducerades. Till en b\u00f6rjan fanns den bara som coup\u00e9 med ikoniska m\u00e5svingard\u00f6rrar, och n\u00e5gra \u00e5r senare kom en roadster med \u00f6ppen topp. Det visade sig snabbt att den amerikanska import\u00f6ren hade en bra k\u00e4nsla f\u00f6r aff\u00e4rer eftersom 300 SL togs v\u00e4l emot av k\u00f6parna. Med sitt tidstypiska utseende, sina \u00f6verl\u00e4gsna prestanda och sin beundransv\u00e4rda n\u00e4rvaro p\u00e5 v\u00e4garna fanns det mycket att gilla med den h\u00e4r bilen.<\/p>\n<p>Detta var n\u00e5gra av de grundl\u00e4ggande grunderna p\u00e5 vilka Mereceds byggde den efterf\u00f6ljande W113-modellen som introducerades 1963. Men grunden f\u00f6r Mercedes SL som vi k\u00e4nner till den i dag &#8211; n\u00e4r det g\u00e4ller kraft och lyx &#8211; lades 1971, n\u00e4r den tredje generationen introducerades.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<h2>Den allra f\u00f6rsta Mercedes SL 500 &#8211; R107<\/h2>\n<p>Den tredje generationen Mercedes SL var visuellt helt annorlunda \u00e4n sin f\u00f6reg\u00e5ngare. Den hade skarpa, raka kroppslinjer och l\u00e5g midja. Den mest anm\u00e4rkningsv\u00e4rda f\u00f6r\u00e4ndringen \u00e4r fronten med en bred frontgaller och stora str\u00e5lkastare. <strong>Detta var i linje med Mercedes d\u00e5varande designspr\u00e5k, som introducerades med S-klassen<\/strong>. Bilen fanns tillg\u00e4nglig som en \u00f6ppen tv\u00e5sitsig bil med kodnamn R107 eller som en coup\u00e9 med den interna beteckningen C107. Cabrioleten hade en mjuk topp som standard, med en avtagbar h\u00e5rd topp som tillval. Mindre kraftfulla modeller riktade sig till f\u00f6rare som fokuserade p\u00e5 stil och utseende, medan de som ville ha mer kraft kunde v\u00e4lja en st\u00f6rre motor. <strong>Dessa var kopplade till en manuell v\u00e4xell\u00e5da eller en 3-v\u00e4xlad automatl\u00e5da, som senare ersattes med en 4-v\u00e4xlad version<\/strong>. Dessa Mercedes SL hade en oberoende dubbelwishbone-upph\u00e4ngning framtill och halva sl\u00e4darmarmar baktill. Trots att den h\u00e4r konfigurationen \u00e4r robust och erbjuder utm\u00e4rkt v\u00e4gkomfort saknar den n\u00e5got sk\u00e4rpa vid skarpa kurvor.  <\/p>\n<p>Men det mest betydelsefulla \u00f6gonblicket intr\u00e4ffade 1977 n\u00e4r 450 SLC 5.0-modellen introducerades. Med en helt ny femliters V8 i aluminium skulle denna bil byggas i ett begr\u00e4nsat antal f\u00f6r homologering till det kommande World Rally Championship 1978.  <strong>Men eftersom k\u00f6parna gillade motorn och dess prestanda tog Mercedes den s\u00e5 sm\u00e5ningom med i<\/strong> det <strong> <em>ordinarie<\/em> sortimentet, och det var s\u00e5 den f\u00f6rsta SL 500 f\u00f6ddes<\/strong>. Med en 0-60-tid p\u00e5 strax \u00f6ver 7 sekunder och en topphastighet p\u00e5 140 miles per timme var bilen otroligt snabb.  <\/p>\n<p>Som vanligt p\u00e5 70-talet m\u00e5ste modellerna f\u00f6r den amerikanska marknaden, d\u00e4r de flesta av dessa bilar s\u00e5ldes, \u00e4ndras n\u00e5got f\u00f6r att uppfylla deras trafikregler. Detta innebar bland annat att st\u00f6rre st\u00f6tf\u00e5ngare och andra str\u00e5lkastare monterades. Dessa uppgraderingar var inte till n\u00e5gon hj\u00e4lp f\u00f6r stilen, eftersom de europeiska modellerna var mer slanka och eleganta.  <\/p>\n<\/p>\n<h2>Fj\u00e4rde generationen Mercedes SL 500<\/h2>\n<p>R107 Mercedes SL var en mycket framg\u00e5ngsrik och mycket popul\u00e4r modell som tillverkades under n\u00e4stan tv\u00e5 decennier. Att ers\u00e4tta den var allts\u00e5 en enorm och kr\u00e4vande uppgift, som d\u00e4rf\u00f6r gavs till bilen med kodnamnet R129, som introducerades 1989. \u00c5terigen \u00e4ndrades stilen avsev\u00e4rt, med en vinklad framsida och mer robusta, massiva karosslinjer.  <strong>Precis som f\u00f6reg\u00e5ngaren var designen starkt influerad av den d\u00e5varande S-klassen.<\/strong>  Men till skillnad fr\u00e5n den gamla modellen fanns den nya SL endast som en tv\u00e5sitsig cabriolet. Motorupps\u00e4ttningen \u00f6verf\u00f6rdes fr\u00e5n den gamla modellen, men ersattes f\u00f6rst med helt nya enheter under de f\u00f6ljande \u00e5ren.  <strong>F\u00f6r\u00e5ldrade sextaktslinjer gav vika f\u00f6r modernare V6-varianter, och flera stora V12-bilar lades till. Men den 5-liters V8:an, som fanns tillg\u00e4nglig i sin uppdaterade version, var f\u00f6r m\u00e5nga den mest \u00f6nskv\u00e4rda versionen av dem alla.<\/strong>. Manuella v\u00e4xell\u00e5dor fanns tillg\u00e4ngliga, \u00e4ven om en fantastisk och elegant 5-v\u00e4xlad G-Tronic-automatik var ett b\u00e4ttre alternativ. Fj\u00e4dringen reviderades grundligt, med en multilink-baksida som ersatte sl\u00e4parmskonfigurationen, vilket f\u00f6rb\u00e4ttrade hanteringen \u00e4nnu mer.<\/p>\n<p>Ett av k\u00e4nnetecknen f\u00f6r denna Mercedes SL-generation \u00e4r att de var utrustade med all den senaste tekniken. Detta var till exempel en av de f\u00f6rsta bilarna med elektroniskt styrd d\u00e4mpning, som justerar fj\u00e4dringarnas beteende beroende p\u00e5 v\u00e4gf\u00f6rh\u00e5llandena. Eller en dold \u00f6verrullningsb\u00e5ge som automatiskt str\u00e4cker sig ut\u00e5t vid en olycka. Detta \u00e5tf\u00f6ljdes av ett brett utbud av komfortfunktioner runt om.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<h2>Femte generationen Mercedes SL 500<\/h2>\n<p>Den sj\u00e4tte generationen av Mercedes SL hade tydliga m\u00e5l framf\u00f6r sig &#8211; att s\u00e4tta nya standarder f\u00f6r prestanda och lyx i sin klass. Den <strong>h\u00e4r g\u00e5ngen var designen inriktad p\u00e5 ett aggressivt utseende och n\u00e4rvaro p\u00e5 v\u00e4gen snarare \u00e4n elegant elegans<\/strong>. Och f\u00f6r f\u00f6rsta g\u00e5ngen var utseendet mer likt den samtida E-klassen \u00e4n S-klassen. Detta beror p\u00e5 att konstrukt\u00f6rerna ans\u00e5g att en s\u00e5dan design skulle ge den nya bilen ett sportigare utseende. Men den mest sl\u00e5ende delen av denna bil \u00e4r utan tvekan taket, eftersom detta var den f\u00f6rsta Mercedes SL som hade ett hopf\u00e4llbart hardtop i metall.
