Den ena var t\u00e4vlingsmaskiner som dominerade Le Mans- och Formel 1-m\u00e4sterskapen, och den andra var GT-cup\u00e9er och cabrioleter som var avsedda f\u00f6r v\u00e4lb\u00e4rgade kunder.  <strong>Det var ingen hemlighet att Enzo Ferrari var ivrig att t\u00e4vla i alla serier han kunde, och n\u00e4r han ins\u00e5g att n\u00e5gra av hans kunder ville ha en t\u00e4vlingsbil som var godk\u00e4nd f\u00f6r v\u00e4gk\u00f6rning var han mer \u00e4n glad att kunna erbjuda dem en s\u00e5dan.<\/strong>  P\u00e5 den tiden b\u00f6rjade GT-racing utvecklas till ett av de mest sp\u00e4nnande m\u00e4sterskapen, med sportbilar fr\u00e5n m\u00e4rken som Maserati, Jaguar och Aston Martin. Enzo ville naturligtvis vara med och gav sina ingenj\u00f6rer i uppdrag att f\u00f6rvandla standardmodellen 250 GT till ett racingmonster. Bizzarinni och hans kompisar ins\u00e5g att standardchassit \u00e4r f\u00f6r l\u00e5ngt f\u00f6r en smidig racerbil och att det beh\u00f6vdes en l\u00e4ttviktskaross f\u00f6r att h\u00e5lla nere vikten och f\u00f6rb\u00e4ttra prestandan.  <strong>D\u00e4rf\u00f6r f\u00f6rkortade de 250 GT coup\u00e9ens golvplan med 20 cm och minskade hjulbasen fr\u00e5n 2600 mm till 2400 mm<\/strong>. Det var ett drastiskt steg, men det gav utdelning eftersom den nya modellen inte bara var smidigare och kompaktare utan ocks\u00e5 l\u00e4ttare och stabilare. Anv\u00e4ndningen av aluminiumpaneler var n\u00e4sta steg, och \u00e4ven om det h\u00f6jde priset h\u00f6ll det bilens totalvikt strax under 960 kg, vilket bidrog till prestandan. Ferraris unga ingenj\u00f6rer visste att t\u00e4vlingsbilar beh\u00f6vde justeringar av fj\u00e4dringen f\u00f6r att vara konkurrenskraftiga och hantera sig p\u00e5 r\u00e4tt s\u00e4tt. <strong>Alla modeller i 250-serien anv\u00e4nde sig av en levande bakaxel med bladfj\u00e4drar, en primitiv men effektiv konstruktion<\/strong>. Enzo var inte villig att investera i den oberoende inst\u00e4llningen, som utan tvekan skulle f\u00f6rb\u00e4ttra kurvtagningsf\u00f6rm\u00e5gan, s\u00e5 teamet beh\u00f6vde \u00e4ndra den befintliga layouten f\u00f6r att ge bilen en b\u00e4ttre hantering. Det var en bil som kunde k\u00f6ras till banan, utrustas med speciella t\u00e4ndstift och t\u00e4vlingsd\u00e4ck och som kunde vinna loppet.
