Investera enorma summor pengar i nya koncept, teknik och design, men misslyckas med att s\u00e4lja dem i tillr\u00e4ckligt antal, vilket g\u00f6r aktie\u00e4garna besvikna och s\u00e4tter f\u00f6retaget under ekonomisk press.  <strong>Vi kan alla f\u00f6rst\u00e5 denna oro, och det \u00e4r d\u00e4rf\u00f6r vi uppm\u00e4rksammar n\u00e4r ett konservativt f\u00f6retag t\u00e4nker utanf\u00f6r boxen och lanserar n\u00e5got innovativt, konstigt och n\u00e4stan oansvarigt<\/strong>. Det var precis vad som h\u00e4nde 1987 n\u00e4r BMW presenterade den unika och oerh\u00f6rt intressanta Z1 Roadster.<\/p>\n<p>F\u00f6r att f\u00f6rst\u00e5 BMW Z1 m\u00e5ste vi g\u00e5 lite l\u00e4ngre tillbaka i historien. Till skillnad fr\u00e5n idag var BMW p\u00e5 70- och 80-talet ett relativt litet f\u00f6retag med ett unikt utbud av prestandainriktade modeller. P\u00e5 grund av den enorma framg\u00e5ngen med E30 3-serien hade f\u00f6retaget ekonomiska medel f\u00f6r att expandera och utforska ny design, nya koncept och ny teknik. D\u00e4rf\u00f6r grundades BMW Technik GmbH som ett dotterbolag. <strong>Det var i grunden en avdelning f\u00f6r avancerade fordon med det enda syftet att skapa innovativ design som kunde anv\u00e4ndas i massproduktion<\/strong>. F\u00f6r att visa upp alla sp\u00e4nnande saker som de har arbetat med fick BMW Technik tillst\u00e5nd att konstruera en bil med en standardiserad drivlina och ett standardchassi, men med en unik kaross, inredning och funktioner. F\u00f6r karossen utvecklade BMW Technik en s\u00e4rskild typ av plastkaross som var stark och l\u00e4tt men \u00e4nd\u00e5 tillr\u00e4ckligt elastisk f\u00f6r att tryckas tillbaka n\u00e4r den bucklas.<\/strong>. Hela kroppen bestod av 16 delar av gjuten plast som snabbt kunde tas bort. BMW t\u00e4nkte sig att \u00e4garna skulle kunna byta ut karosseripanelerna och \u00e4ndra bilens f\u00e4rg om de ville.<\/p>\n<p>Men trots att de avtagbara karosseripanelerna \u00e4r mycket intressanta var d\u00f6rrdesignen en helt fantastisk egenskap. I st\u00e4llet f\u00f6r att anv\u00e4nda en standardkonstruktion konstruerade BMW en d\u00f6rr som gled ner till tr\u00f6sklarna n\u00e4r man tryckte p\u00e5 knappen. Designen och funktionerna var ov\u00e4ntade vid den tiden och BMW blev \u00f6verv\u00e4ldigad av best\u00e4llningarna. Det ryktades att \u00f6ver 4 000 best\u00e4llningar gjordes under m\u00e4ssan, och vissa kunder betalade till och med \u00f6ver 20 000 mark f\u00f6r att komma upp p\u00e5 v\u00e4ntelistan. Den officiella produktionen inleddes i b\u00f6rjan av 1989 och de f\u00f6rsta leveranserna skedde senare samma \u00e5r. Listpriset var ganska astronomiskt, 80 000 tyska mark, vilket var tre g\u00e5nger priset p\u00e5 en standard 325i, som Z1 byggde p\u00e5.  <strong>Men med en tid fr\u00e5n 0 till 60 mph p\u00e5 7,8 sekunder och en toppfart p\u00e5 drygt 140 mph var Z1 ganska snabb och mer dynamisk \u00e4n 325i p\u00e5 grund av sin l\u00e4gre tyngdpunkt, den n\u00e5got lutande motorn f\u00f6r att ge den l\u00e5ga fronten och b\u00e4ttre aerodynamik.<\/strong>. Det visade sig dock att BMW:s optimistiska l\u00f6ften om att det skulle vara l\u00e4tt att ta bort karosseripanelerna var kraftigt \u00f6verdrivna. F\u00f6retaget lovade att alla paneler skulle tas bort p\u00e5 mindre \u00e4n en timme, men det tog flera timmar att f\u00e5 jobbet gjort.
