Prvi so bili dirkalni stroji, ki so prevladovali v prvenstvih Le Mans in Formula 1, drugi pa cestni kupeji in kabrioleti GT, namenjeni premo\u017enim strankam.  <strong>Ni skrivnost, da je Enzo Ferrari \u017eelel dirkati v vseh mo\u017enih serijah, in ko je ugotovil, da si nekatere njegove stranke \u017eelijo dirkalnik, ki bi bil primeren za cestno vo\u017enjo, jim ga je z veseljem priskrbel.<\/strong>  V tistih \u010dasih je dirkanje GT postalo eno najzanimivej\u0161ih prvenstev, v katerem so sodelovali \u0161portni avtomobili znamk, kot so Maserati, Jaguar in Aston Martin. Enzo je seveda \u017eelel sodelovati v akciji in je svojim in\u017eenirjem dal nalogo, da standardni model 250 GT spremenijo v dirkalno zverino. Bizzarinni in njegovi sodelavci so ugotovili, da je serijsko podvozje predolgo za okretno dirkalno vozilo in da je potrebna lahka karoserija, da bi zmanj\u0161ali te\u017eo in izbolj\u0161ali zmogljivosti.  <strong>Zato so tloris kupeja 250 GT skraj\u0161ali za 20 cm in zmanj\u0161ali medosno razdaljo s 2600 mm na 2400 mm<\/strong>. To je bila drasti\u010dna poteza, ki pa se je obrestovala, saj novi model ni bil le bolj okreten in kompakten, temve\u010d tudi la\u017eji in stabilnej\u0161i. Naslednji korak je bila uporaba aluminijastih plo\u0161\u010d, ki je sicer zvi\u0161ala ceno, vendar je ohranila skupno te\u017eo avtomobila pod 960 kg, kar je pripomoglo k bolj\u0161im zmogljivostim. Ferrarijevi mladi in\u017eenirji so vedeli, da dirkalni avtomobili potrebujejo prilagoditve vzmetenja, da so konkuren\u010dni in se ustrezno obna\u0161ajo. <strong>Vsi modeli serije 250 so uporabljali \u017eive zadnje osi z listnatimi vzmetmi, kar je bila primitivna, a u\u010dinkovita zasnova<\/strong>. Enzo ni bil pripravljen vlagati v neodvisno nastavitev, ki bi nedvomno izbolj\u0161ala zmogljivosti v zavojih, zato je morala ekipa spremeniti obstoje\u010do postavitev, da bi avtomobilu zagotovila bolj\u0161o vodljivost. Na eni strani je imel uporabno notranjost, vozno dinamiko, ki je lastniku omogo\u010dala vsakodnevno uporabo, in dostopne zmogljivosti v kombinaciji z odli\u010dnim oprijemom in zaviranjem. <strong>Po drugi strani pa je bilo 250 GT SWB mogo\u010de z minimalnimi spremembami uporabljati na dirkali\u0161\u010du, kar je ve\u010dina njegovih lastnikov tudi storila<\/strong>. To je bil avtomobil, ki ga je bilo mogo\u010de odpeljati na dirkali\u0161\u010de, opremiti s posebnimi v\u017eigalnimi sve\u010dkami in dirkalnimi pnevmatikami ter z njim zmagati na dirki. Tak\u0161na dvojna osebnost je bila v tistih \u010dasih redko vidna in prav zaradi te lastnosti je bil \u0161e dolgo po koncu proizvodnje tako znan in iskan. Zanimivo je, da kljub temu, da sta konstrukcija in dizajn do\u017eivela najve\u010d sprememb, znani 3,0-litrski motor Colombo V12 ni bil tako zelo spremenjen.
