Triumphin insin\u00f6\u00f6rit kuitenkin huomasivat, ett\u00e4 coupe-kori oli painavampi kuin roadster-kori ja ett\u00e4 uusi malli tarvitsisi tehokkaamman moottorin. Triumph GT6:ssa korostettiin aikuista luonnetta, Gran Turismo -ominaisuuksia ja kuusisylinterist\u00e4 moottoria, joka oli suurin myyntivaltti. GT6 oli 95 hv:n ja 850 kg:n painoisen korin ansiosta riitt\u00e4v\u00e4n dynaaminen her\u00e4tt\u00e4\u00e4kseen ostajien ja autolehdist\u00f6n huomion.  <b>GT6 oli kalliimpi kuin Spitfire, mutta se oli my\u00f6s ylellisempi, tilavampi ja nopeampi, mik\u00e4 oikeutti hintansa.  <\/b>Triumphin markkinointiosasto k\u00e4ytti Le Mansin menestyst\u00e4 suorituskyvyn mainostamiseen; vaikka GT6:lla ei ollut mit\u00e4\u00e4n tekemist\u00e4 GT4-kilpaohjelman kanssa, temppu toimi. Ne saivat jopa puolivirallisen lempinimen &#8220;k\u00f6yh\u00e4n miehen E-Type&#8221;, joka my\u00f6s j\u00e4i kiinni ilmeisist\u00e4 syist\u00e4. Molemmat autot olivat brittil\u00e4isi\u00e4, niiden mittasuhteet olivat samankaltaiset, ja niiss\u00e4 oli kuusisylinteriset moottorit. E-Type oli toki nopeampi, mutta GT6 Mk1:n 0-100-ajoaika oli hieman yli 10 sekuntia, ja sit\u00e4 pidettiin sen ajan standardien mukaan dynaamisena. Autolehdist\u00f6 kuitenkin kritisoi Spitfirest\u00e4 lainattua keinuakselirakennetta. Insin\u00f6\u00f6rit eiv\u00e4t kuitenkaan unohtaneet moottoria. Uusien nokka-akselien, uuden sylinterikannen ja imusarjan avulla kuusisylinterinen moottori tuotti 104 hv. Ei paljon, mutta se paransi suorituskyky\u00e4 ja jopa polttoainetaloutta.
