Bizzarinni og hans kolleger inds\u00e5, at standardchassiset er for langt til en smidig racerbil, og at der var behov for et letv\u00e6gtskarrusel for at holde v\u00e6gten nede og forbedre ydeevnen.  <strong>Derfor forkortede de 250 GT coup\u00e9ens gulvplan med 20 cm og reducerede hjulbasen fra 2600 mm til 2400 mm<\/strong>. Det var et drastisk skridt, men det gav pote, da den nye model ikke blot var mere smidig og kompakt, men ogs\u00e5 lettere og mere stabil. Brugen af aluminiumspaneler var det n\u00e6ste skridt, og selv om det h\u00e6vede prisen, holdt det bilens samlede v\u00e6gt p\u00e5 lige under 960 kg, hvilket hjalp p\u00e5 ydeevnen. Ferraris unge ingeni\u00f8rer vidste, at racerbiler havde brug for justeringer af affjedringen for at v\u00e6re konkurrencedygtige og have den rette k\u00f8reegenskaber. <strong>Alle modellerne i 250-serien brugte en levende bagaksel med bladfjedre, et primitivt, men effektivt design<\/strong>. Enzo var ikke villig til at investere i en uafh\u00e6ngig ops\u00e6tning, som uden tvivl ville forbedre kurveegenskaberne, s\u00e5 teamet var n\u00f8dt til at \u00e6ndre det eksisterende layout for at give bilen en bedre h\u00e5ndtering. P\u00e5 den ene side havde den et anvendeligt interi\u00f8r, en k\u00f8rselsdynamik, der gjorde det muligt for ejeren at bruge den dagligt, og en tilg\u00e6ngelig ydeevne kombineret med en sublim stabilitet og bremsning. P\u00e5 den <strong>anden side kunne 250 GT SWB bruges p\u00e5 banen med minimale modifikationer, hvilket de fleste af dens ejere gjorde<\/strong>. Det var en bil, der kunne k\u00f8res p\u00e5 banen, udstyres med specielle t\u00e6ndr\u00f8r og racingd\u00e6k og kunne vinde l\u00f8bet. En s\u00e5dan dobbelt personlighed var sj\u00e6ldent set dengang, og det var netop denne egenskab, der gjorde den s\u00e5 ber\u00f8mt og eftertragtet, l\u00e6nge efter at produktionen var slut. Det er interessant, at selv om konstruktionen og designet blev \u00e6ndret mest, blev den velkendte 3,0-liters Colombo V12 motor ikke \u00e6ndret s\u00e5 meget. I den periode producerede Ferrari pr\u00e6cis 167 biler med forskellige specifikationer.  <strong>Omkring 100 k\u00f8ret\u00f8jer var standard &#8220;Lusso&#8221;-modeller, mindre hardcore og mere vejorienterede modeller med 240 hk-motorer.<\/strong>  &#8220;Competizione&#8221;-specifikationen blev produceret i ca. 45 eksemplarer, og der blev ogs\u00e5 leveret ca. 20 biler med fuld racerspecifikation. Ejerlisten var meget lig &#8220;Who is Who&#8221; i bilverdenen i begyndelsen af 60&#8217;erne. Inspireret af succesen med 250 GT SWB fortsatte Enzo med at udvikle formlen.
